BREED STANDARD

The most widely used is the FCI Standard

which is a world-wide standard.

The CCAA Standard is used

in the United States.

Breed Standards give

 specific measurements and

proportions detailing

 the ideal characteristics

that distinguish this wonderful breed

from any other pure bred dog.

BEST FRIEND

A properly bred and socialized Cane Corso will be even-tempered, dependable and trustworthy around children and adults. Children should always be supervised to make sure that they treat any dog with dignity, love, and respect.

It is very important to leave your new puppy with his litter until at least 8 weeks of age to assist him in his social development. This is when he learns how to play and interact with his peers and other dogs. He learns how much jaw pressure to use, and he learns that there is a certain “pecking order” in life. The relationship with his brothers and sisters will carry on to his new relationships with his new human family and friends.

A Cane Corso will never back down when challenged, due to their natural dominant nature.

COLOR CHOICE

Good breeding, temperament, genetics are the most important consideration in choosing your new puppy. However, it is important to note that in the Unites States, the Cane Corso appears in a larger variety of colors than it does in Italy. The FIC (which is NOT the same as the FCI) says that the Cane Corso may come in any color except solid white.

Weight Pulling, Hog Catching, Shows, Obedience, Agility, Animal/Pet Therapy, conformation, obedience, CGC, TDI, Agility, Search & Rescue, Schutzhund, Ringsports, NAPD, PSA, Irondog, Herding.

HEALTHY NUTRITION

The Cane Corso needs plenty of good nutrition and exercise. Calcium supplements are often given, especially during the growth period. These dogs love cottage cheese, which is an EXCELLENT source of natural calcium. Cottage cheese is easily digestible by Cane Corsi.

A premium kibble is fed regularly. My personal choice is ½ Eukanuba Large Breed with ½ Nutro Max Puppy for pups
.

In addition, I supplement my dogs' diet with ground hamburger, heated in the microwave, or cooked chicken along with 2 raw eggs, plus 2 tablespoons of olive oil per feeding (for their coats), starting gradually.

Your breeder should give you a few days supply of whatever your puppy has been eating. You should start out with the same food the breeder has been using to reduce upset stomach and stress when your new puppy goes home with you.

Your dog MUST have something to chew on AT ALL TIMES for clean, healthy gums and teeth. It will keep them away from your shoes and other things they are not supposed to be chewing on.

REGISTRY

The Cane Corso Association of America (formerly ICCF) is the recognized registry in the United States, with the Cane Corso also being registered with the American Rare Breed Association (ARBA). This organization sponsors events for rare breeds, generally those not recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC).  ARBA uses the ICCF Breed Standard.

PLEASE NOTE:

The Cane Corso Association of America  is a Breed Club of persons interested in the well-being of Cane Corsi.  It is not to be confused with the Official Registry.

The Cane Corso Preservation Society (CCPS) in the United States has ties with SACC, the Italian parent Club (Societá Amatori Cane Corso) and uses the FCI standard.

FEDERATION CYNOLOGIQUE INTERNATIONALE (FCI)

Represents the World Kennel Club with

over 330 breeds bringing uniformity to

breeding, showing and judging of

pure-bred dogs.

AKC FSS – This is a service provided by the American Kennel Club, to allow new breeds to develop with the security of a reliable system of record maintenance.
A close relative, the Neapolitan Mastiff was recently recognized by the AKC in May of 2004. It is probably that the Cane Corso will follow closely and be recognized by the AKC.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

As a responsible pet owner, you will need to include regular visits to the veterinarian, tags, taxes appropriate shots, dog beds, crates, toys, chews, proper fencing or exercise regimen, collars, leads, flea, tick and Lyme prevention, heartworm prevention, pooper scoopers or Mutt Mitts, (plastic bags also can be used) to dispose of your dog’s waste.

Find a reputable breeder with healthy pups.

Equally important, make sure the breeder

is someone you trust and feel comfortable with.

Your breeder should be a resource

for the ENTIRE life of your pup.

DON'T BE TOO ANXIOUS

TO GET A PUP.

The better establishments

ususally have waiting lists.  If

a breeder is anxious for you

to HURRY and send payment

without qualifying you...

BEWARE!!!

PLEASE NOTE***

THIS BREED IS

Puppy Kindergarten and

BASIC OBEDIENCE classes

before the age of 6 months
